Jonathon Naylor Editor A Snow Lake lodge owner fears unintended consequences from a recent deal that gives Manitoba M_tis people the same hunting rights as First Nations. Brad Gogal, part-owner of Burntwood Lake Lodge, worries the move will bring more hunters, which could close certain parts of Manitoba to prevent over-hunting. 'Now there's going to be more pressure around here. The locals are going to get shoved out of their own hunting areas,' Gogal recently told the Winnipeg Free Press. According to the article, the agreement means M_tis people can hunt and fish without a provincial licence, but only in certain parts of the province. Paul Turenne, executive director of the Manitoba Lodges & Outfitters Association, told the Free Press the deal should benefit the hunting tourism industry.
