Submitted by Northern Sport,Culture andRecreation District Eleven northern artists and craftspeople were part of the first art tender by the Northern Sport, Culture and Recreation District (NSCRD). Northern Sask-atchewan is proud to have a variety of talented artists and craftspeople. The NSCRD recently developed a Northern Saskatchewan Arts & Culture Handbook profiling many artists and craftspeople _ from traditional arts and crafts and storytelling, to contemporary visual arts and dance. This handbook sparked further interest and ideas for the NSCRD to work with and support northern artists and craftspeople. The NSCRD decided to try an art tender for small artwork items ($25 each or less) from northern artist and craftspeople. These arts and crafts are used by the NSCRD as gifts to presenters and special guests at training events and programs that we implement. This first Northern Art Tender involved 11 artists from across northern Saskatchewan, including: Derek Sylvestre (Turnor Lake); Crystal Banting (Creighton); Margaret Britton (Flin Flon); Linda Sonnenberg Johnson (Flin Flon); Dolores Miller (La Ronge); Cameron McIntosh (La Ronge); Miriam Korner (La Ronge); Kathleen Keating (La Ronge); Catherine Laliberte (Green Lake); Elaine Angelski (Denare Beach); and Rosa Lafluer (Beauval). The NSCRD will be making this an annual tender and look forward to working with northern artists and craftspeople next year.
