A Flin Flon-based junior miner hopes to benefit from the expertise of an internationally experienced geoscientist with a strong track record in this region. Copper Reef Mining Corp. on Monday announced the appointment of James Pickell to its board of directors. In a news release, Copper Reef said its board is confident in Pickell's 'breadth of experience and expertise in many areas of exploration.' This is especially true of 'his knowledge and success with VMS (volcanogenic massive sulfide) deposits in the Flin Flon Belt and elsewhere.' Pickell's experience, the company said, 'will be a tremendous asset to Copper Reef's exploration efforts on its large land holdings in the Flin Flon and Snow Lake mining camps.' Pickell is a professional geoscientist and president of Vancouver's Orca Geosciences Ltd., which provides technical consulting services to mining companies. He has over 35 years of exploration and mining experience, including time with Hudbay's exploration arm in the Flin Flon-Snow Lake Greenstone Belt. Copper Reef said Pickell initiated and directed the work responsible for the discovery of several economic and near-economic ore deposits within and adjacent to Flin Flon as well as the Cape Smith Belt in northern Quebec. He is associated with at least four significant mine discoveries in the Flin Flon region: 777, Konuto Lake, Callinan North deposits and Namew Lake. Pickell is a recipient of the prestigious Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada's Bill Dennis Prospector of the Year Award for the discovery of deposits in the Flin Flon-Snow Lake region. He is also currently a senior geological consultant and director for Chieftain Metals Corp. of Toronto. All of Copper Reef's properties are in the exploration stage.
