Jonathon Naylor Editor Flin Flon area artists cleaned up at the 36th Annual Northern Juried Art Show. They claimed the top three honours at the showcase of northern Manitoba talent, held last Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Gui Hall in The Pas. 'The calibre of work was awesome. I'm glad I wasn't picking the winners,' said chairperson James Dean. Winners were selected by a juried panel consisting of three renowned art figures from Winnipeg and Brandon. Sarah Trevor of Denare Beach took Best of Show honours with her fibre art collage called 'The Disappeared.' Lois Pedersen of Flin Flon won the People's Choice Award for 'Poplars,' an acrylic painting. And the prestigious Bridging the North Award went to Eila Duncalfe of Flin Flon for her acrylic painting, 'Bush Trails.' Dean said the award was handed out in celebration of the 100th anniversary of The Pas. He said the show highlighted a wide range of artists, from children under 10 to a 97-year-old elder from OCN, Evelyn Jebb, who entered handmade moccasins. More than 150 entries were on display from a dozen communities. Flin Flon, The Pas and Thompson were represented along with smaller towns such as Lac Brochet and Moose Lake. Aside from taking the top three honours, local artists also fared well in the individual categories.
