Greenstone Community Futures Development Corporation will now administer business loan funds from the City of Flin Flon. City Council voted Tuesday to allow Greenstone to manage the City's fund of about $70,000 for aspiring and established business owners. "The best bet is to channel it to Greenstone and allow their clients the opportunity to utilize our funding," said Councillor Tom Therien, who made the motion, adding that the fund has so far been "underused." One of the services provided by Greenstone, based on Main Street, is to provide loans for businesspeople. The City's loan program started out with $75,000 consisting of $50,000 from the Manitoba government and $25,000 from the City.
