The Directors of the Little Athapap Cottage Owners Association have had three meetings this season. One each in May, June and July. A big item under discussion is the future use of our sewage lagoon. Presently, we have received nothing official, but we are hearing that in two years time our sewage will be processed through the (then) new and operational sewage treatment plant in Flin Flon. We understand that some discussions have been taking place between the Department of Conservation and the City of Flin Flon. Basically, the Directors support the treatment of sewage through the Flin Flon treatment plant. However, our concern is to have the most economical plan for moving the sewage from the 'pump out' tank to the treatment plant. Can we use the Cuprus Lagoon as a holding cell? At what rate can the sewage from cottages be fed into the treatment plant and what facilities are required to handle sewage from the cottages? These and other questions have been discussed and when the Directors have answers, the information will be available to all members. The Flin Flon Fish Enhancement Society, with the support of the Department of Conservation, have contracted with North / South Consultants, Inc. of Winnipeg to do a CREEL survey during the summer months. The Little Athapap Cottage Owners Association have supported this initiative and Mr. Darcy Pisiak, biologist and representative of North/South Consultants, has distributed information to all cottagers in order that they can report information on fish caught and retained. The survey has been ongoing since May. Cottagers with questions can contact Darcy through the Bakers Narrows Park office. During the winter, two of our Directors, Bobbi Powell and Gail Seigel, completed a comprehensive directory of all cottagers in the Little Athapap Cottage Owners Association area. Copies are in the hands of all Directors, as well as the local RCMP, Fire Department and Ambulance. For information from the directory, contact Pat MacQuarrie, Secretary. A garbage pick-up service has been started by Irving Collins of Big Island/Schist Lake. This service is available to any Little Athapap Cottage Owners Association cottager who may be interested. Directors have discussed an Emergency Measures Plan for Bakers Narrows cottagers similar to one set up for the Clearwater Lake area. It has been suggested that the Little Athapap Cottage Owners Association should have such a plan in place in case an evacuation is necessary because of a general forest fire in the area. Contact will be made with the EMO in Flin Flon for assistance in drawing up such a plan. Our next Directors meeting will be held on Saturday, August 21st at 8:00 a.m. Place to be determined. Our next Annual General Meeting will be held on Monday, August 23rd at 7:00 p.m. in the grader shed, Bakers Narrows Park Maintenance Yard.
