Intergovernmental Affairs and Trade Minister Scott Smith, minister responsible for the Manitoba Liquor Control Commission (MLCC), yesterday introduced proposed changes that would modernize the Liquor Control Act. The proposed changes include amendments that would allow businesses to re-cork wine served with a meal. Other proposed changes include amendments to allow for the sale of grape-based specialty spirits and grape-based specialty liqueurs in specialty wine stores. The proposed legislation would also extend the clearing time at closing from 30 to 60 minutes meaning, for example, liquor service would stop at 2 a.m. with liquor cleared by 3 a.m.
