A number of service groups around the world have made it their mission to provide financial aid in the aftermath of Asia's deadly tsunamis. And the Lions Club Ð both at the local and international levels Ð is no exception. The Flin Flon Lions Club recently donated about $1,233 to the Lions International Foundation for Tsunami Relief. The tsunami disaster has prompted an outpouring of support from Lions around the world. Lions in the affected countries have been working day and night to bring lifesaving supplies to victims. Thanks to the Lions, lives are being saved and communities will be rebuilt. The Lions Club International Foundation has awarded about $579,558 in grants to Lions in India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Malaysia. That includes $271,283 in emergency grants for Lions to secure and deliver food, water and blankets as well as a $308,276 major catastrophe grant for longer-term relief. Meanwhile, former Flin Flonner Derwin Kitch has had an up-close perspective of the disaster as a resident of Colombo, Sri Lanka. "We haven't known anyone directly lost, but everyone seems to know someone indirectly affected by this," said Kitch in an e-mail interview earlier this week. "It is an island of 19 million people, but a disaster of this magnitude affects everyone, even if it is a distant friend or relative."
