Members of the Flin Flon Lions Club celebrated service to their community this past weekend. About 40 people were on hand at the Victoria Inn for the club's 50th Charter Night celebration. "It went very well," commented Past District Governor Andy Stewart. Special guests at the celebration were District Governor Lilliss Morrice and Past District Governor Lloyd Morrice, both from Brandon. Lilliss delivered a well-received speech to the Lions in which she spoke highly of the Flin Flon members. She also spoke on this year's theme for Lionism, "Innovation Gateway to the Future." The Lions had a special gift for Lilliss, donating $200 to her New Born Infant Hearing Screening project. Awards presented during the evening consisted of: Past-President Award - Past District Governor Andy Stewart Lion of the Year - Lion Isabel Stewart Hope Medals - Lion Wayne Streamer and Lion Roger Poirier Judge Brian Stevenson Award - Lion Peter Siemens and Lion Harold Spring Life Memberships (awarded through the courtesy of the Lions Foundation of Canada) - Lion Monica Lone and Lion Steven Spring. Perfect Attendance awards went to lions Monica Lone; Lynda Spring; Isabel Stewart; Alan French; Wayne Streamer; Peter Siemens; Gerry Fullowka; La Verne Hinzman; Harold Spring; Joe McCormick; Warner Rink; Peter Popp; Roger Poirier; Past District Governor Andy Stewart; and Past District Governor Kjell Hvidsten. Three new members to the club were welcomed: Lion Richard French, who was sponsored by Lion Alan French; Lion Ryan Thorgilsson, who was sponsored by Lion Isabel Stewart; and Lion Richard Switzer, who was sponsored by Lion Warner Rink. The Flin Flon Lions Club currently has 39 members and more are always welcome. For more information about joining, contact Andy at 687-5569 or any other member.
