Submitted by Central Canada Film Group Are you interested in movie-making? Do you want to know what goes into making an entertaining film? Are you interested in making 'home movies' that have a professional look and feel to them? Then you should look into joining the Central Canada Film Group! We are a bunch of dedicated amateurs who would like to share our knowledge and experience in making videos that are informative and entertaining. With the rise of digital video technology, it is now possible to shoot and edit high-quality movies at a modest cost. Many people now have high-quality video recording cameras, but are often at a loss about how to get their footage to a level that doesn't look like the 8mm home movies of a bygone era. We also share an interest in existing films. Our first public event will be a showing and concurrent discussion of The Great Escape. We will provide a critical discussion, led by Colin Davis, of this classic tonight, Jan. 25, starting at 6 p.m. sharp at the Dorothy Ash Theatre at Hapnot Collegiate. Doors to this free event open at 5:30 p.m. We anticipate that the showing and discussion will run until about 10 p.m. Our group has other events planned. Davis has agreed to present a series of discussions that cover the history of filmmaking, starting from its earliest days in the late 19th century, proceeding through the silent era, early black-and-white features and colour film. We are planning to get critically-reviewed films through the Toronto International Film Festival. These will be presented at the Dorothy Ash Theatre in Hapnot. This year we hope to present three or four movies. We will be charging a modest fee to recoup some of our expenses to bring these movies in. We have several projects that we are working on both as a group and individually, including several shorts on Culture Days and an audition video of the Flin Flon Community Choir. We are an open group that meets at the NorVA Centre (177 Green Street). Our next meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Jan. 31. Additional information will be available at the public showing and discussion of The Great Escape tonight.
