Manitoba Conservation crews have been busy after lightning sparked at least seven forest fires in the Flin Flon-Sherridon region over the weekend. The closest of the fires reported by Monday afternoon was burning near Hammell Lake just north of Creighton. Another was spotted along the Sherridon road about 20 kilometres outside Flin Flon. There were two fires along the Saskatchewan-Manitoba border north of Flin Flon, and an additional three started north of Sherridon. "Right now they're all fairly small and we have ground crews on them," said Conservation's Corey Meadows on Monday afternoon. But Meadows fully expected more fires would be spotted as aircraft soar overhead this week in search of smoke. On Monday, nearly 100 firefighters were either on duty or on call throughout the region. "We hope there's no more fires, but we know there probably will be," said Meadows.
