Residents are being rewarded for their love of reading. The Flin Flon-Creighton Public Library will receive $150 worth of books for participating in the Battle of the Books 2004, which involved 61 libraries across the province. The goal was to see which of three provincial regions could increase its library circulation the most throughout this past February compared to February, 2003. The local library was placed on a team with other libraries across the northern and western parts of the province for the friendly challenge, joining forces with the likes of Thompson, The Pas, Snow Lake and Leaf Rapids. See 'Circulation' P.# Con't from P.# Each library in our region will receive the prize of $150 in books. Our region placed second in the Battle of the Books thanks in part to an impressive circulation increase of 77 per cent in Flin Flon. Overall, the region saw a 17 per cent increase, with readers signing out nearly 168,000 books. Snow Lake Community Library will gain a special prize for its 121 per cent circulation increase. The prize consists of a book bag, courtesy of McNally Robinson, along with five books from CBC. The Battle of the Books was part of a campaign by Manitoba Culture, Heritage and Tourism to promote alternatives to television viewing as a winter pastime.
