It’s been said that good leaders never stop learning.
That was certainly the case last weekend as leaders from different sectors across Flin Flon and area attended the Global Leadership Summit 2015.
“It was amazing,” said Alexandra Béasse, one of 82 participants at the event, hosted by the Flin Flon Alliance Church.
Béasse left the summit inspired, energized and ready to integrate her newfound knowledge into her job as career development coordinator for three northern school divisions.
The two-day summit included rebroadcasts of speeches from renowned global leaders originally delivered in August. They included business and religious leaders.
One of Béasse’s favourite speakers was Dr. Brené Brown, a best-selling author and public speaker who encourages followers to embrace their true selves, warts and all.
Béasse took heed in Brown’s suggestion that discomfort is needed to spur people into action, and that failures are both inevitable and a sign of progress.
The summit is the product of the Willow Creek Association, an international Christian association, but is aimed at all those of all or no faiths.
Attendees came from sectors such as business, municipal government, health care, non-profits and education.
Andrew McGregor, pastor at the Flin Flon Alliance Church, welcomed the opportunity to host the summit.
“We thought it was an interesting way to serve the community,” he said, adding that leadership development for area residents usually involves travelling outside the community.
McGregor was pleased with the event and the turnout, saying attendees left encouraged and mindful of initiatives they hope to implement.
He plans to make his church a satellite location for next year’s summit.
