Hapnot’s volleyball teams came close to a total sweep of this year’s Zone 11 titles.
The senior varsity Kweens team won last weekend’s zone tournament on their home court.
The Kweens rolled over the opposition, never dropping a set throughout the tournament.
After beating the Frontier Collegiate Raiders 25-18, 25-12 and George A. Knott 25-10, 25-6 in the round robin, the Kweens received a bye to the tournament semi-finals. After a 25-16, 25-9 to Oxford House’s 1972 Memorial Thunder, the Kweens faced Frontier for the second time.
Frontier fared slightly better in the final than they did in the round robin, but Hapnot still dominated play, winning 25-13, 25-12 and earning Hapnot’s third zone banner in the last two weeks.
Both Hapnot’s junior Kings and Kweens squads won banners in their zone tournament, held in
Flin Flon on Nov. 10 and 11.
The Kings had to make it to the final of their draw the hard way, losing to Frontier in the round robin and finishing second in their pool.
Hapnot earned a spot in the semi-finals after beating the Frontier Mosakahiken Grizzlies 25-21, 25-11. In the semis, the Kings knocked off 1972 Memorial 25-23, 25-18, setting up a rematch with the Frontier Raiders in the finals.
After dropping the first set to Frontier 25-22, the Kings kept the second set close. Despite a nail-biting finish, Hapnot ultimately lost to Frontier 25-22,
26-24, denying Hapnot of a sweep of all four volleyball zone banners this year.
