On the evening of March 15, Cubs from the 5th and 8th Packs of Flin Flon got together at the Legion Hall for the annual Border Group Kub Kar Rally which is sponsored by Northland Ford Sales Ltd. Racing was fast and furious on the track with the majority of the races having to be decided by the judges. Once the races on the main track were finished the Cubs moved on to two new skill competitions. Both were a curling style of competition with each Cub pushing his Kar to go over a line for a score, or pushing his Kar to end up in a drawn shape. Scores were from 10 down and each Cub had a practice run then three runs with the total of each skill been added to their racing total. While the Cubs were doing the two skills competitions, the local 5th Beavers raced their Beaver Buggies on the Kub Kar track. This was an introduction to what they could expect when they come up to Cubs. The final station was a distance run. The last section of the Kub Kar track was removed and tape was put down on the floor at the width of approximately two feet. The tape was marked off at six inch intervals making a 35 foot area for the Kars to run in. The Cub put his Kar at the starting gate and the Kar was released with the distance being measured from where the Kar went out of the tape. The best distance was recorded. When all the stations were finished the winners were decided by adding the two skill competitions together with the total of the 18 main races they had. The distance race was used to break a tie if needed. This was the first time that these three new competitions have been run in Flin Flon. Taking the First Place was Matthew Kryschuk (5th Pack), Second Place was Ben Kinsley (8th Pack), Third Place was Luke Holubec (8th Pack) and Fourth Place was Sam Kinsley (8th Pack). The distance race decided 3rd and 4th places. See 'Presentations' P.# Con't from P.# Prior to the trophies being presented two door prize draws were held for the Cubs racing. Top prize went to Justin Wilson (8th Pack) and 2nd prize went to Matthew Kryschuk (5th Pack). The door prizes were donated by the Group President, Dan Boily. Finally the trophies and pins were presented to the Cubs by Brent Grocholski, representing Northland Ford Sales Ltd. Once the presentations were completed to the Cubs, a final presentation was made to Don Peake from Scouts Canada Manitoba Council. Don was awarded the Medal Of Merit for especially good service to Scouting. The medal was presented to Don by Dan Boily and Francis Wall.
