The Kinsmen and Kinette clubs of Flin Flon will be reviving a familiar tradition as Oktoberfest returns to the community next month.
The German-themed event will offer authentic food, beverages and music as the Flin Flon Community Hall plays host on Oct. 4.
“We’re really trying to make it a traditional Oktoberfest event,” said Kinette president Marlene Gogal. “We’ll have selections of traditional German beer and wines, the bratwurst and bun, sides and the authentic atmosphere.”
Along with the traditional meal and beverages, Gogal says there will also be a live Bavarian-style Oopmah band featuring local talent.
“Oktoberfest is [traditionally] about the beer, food and music,” she said. “So we’re trying to stay authentic.”
Guests attending the Oktoberfest activities will visit different pavilions around the R.H. Channing Auditorium to gather their meals, drinks and even traditional pretzel snacks.
Reviving Oktoberfest
Oktoberfest had been popular in the surrounding area, but hasn’t been held for a number of years.
The Kin groups hope to “revive something that was fun and successful in the past,” said Gogal.
There is already plenty of interest surrounding the event as word makes its way throughout the community.
“There’s definitely interest and enthusiasm already,” Gogal said, as ticket sales have already begun.
Tickets for Oktoberfest are available at The Orange Toad as well as Gas Bar. Tickets include a meal per person as well as the entertainment and social to follow.
