Jonathon Naylor Editor Two false alarms ended 2011 on a quiet note for Flin Flon firefighters, city council learned. At their meeting last week, council reviewed the fire chief's report for December, which detailed the pair of incidents. The first occurred at 2:45 p.m. on Dec. 18 off of Highway 10 near Bakers Narrows. The individual who reported the fire could not speak English, but firefighters still found their way. Upon arrival they found old brush from fireguards being burnt off by a contractor. The on-call officer and 15 firefighters responded. Then on Dec. 30 at 5:48 p.m. came a call of alarms sounding on Main Street. Upon arrival firefighters determined that the alarm was false. The on-call officer and 13 firefighters responded. It was a much slower month than December of 2010, when firefighters responded to seven calls. Other highlights from last week's council meeting: Council voted to donate $1,000 to the Flin Flon Ski Club for the SaskMan Cup being held Feb. 18 and 19. Coun. Colleen McKee, who made the motion, noted this is a cross-border event and that 'it's very worthwhile to bring people in from out of town.' Coun. Tim Babcock, president of the Trout Festival, reminded the public that the festival's annual general meeting will be held Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. at the City Hall Council Chambers. He stressed the need for new volunteers, noting the same handful of people are continuously working to ensure the summer tradition proceeds.
