The Flin Flon Kinette Club raised nearly $1,700 to fight a serious disease with its new Grocery Grab fundraiser.

Tickets were sold for $5 a piece with proceeds used to combat cystic fibrosis, a key focus for Kinette and Kinsmen clubs across Canada.

Following a concept similar to that of the Supermarket Sweep game show, lucky winner Krista Eastman had three minutes to run through the aisles of North of 53 Consumers Co-op on Sunday, May 24.

Eastman, a wife and mother of two, collected $435 in product as her sons cheered her on after each aisle.

Eastman’s haul included honey, peanut butter, laundry detergent, frozen ice cream treats, macaroni and cheese, paper plates and coffee – to name but a few.

Kinettes were stationed at end of each aisle – with the meat, produce and deli sections off limits – to ensure Eastman followed the rules.

The Co-op later discounted a total of 10 per cent from the purchase price, which the Kinette Club will take care of.

Eastman’s was one of five names to be drawn on Thursday, May 21 in the qualifying draw on air at CFAR.

She, Cheryl Eastman, Rende Lindsay, Monica Larson and Wendy Goodman all met at the Co-op on Sunday morning for the final draw.

The four qualifiers who did not run each received a $50 gift certificate from the Co-op.
