2003 June 4 Ð Gerard Jennissen called his re-election "overwhelming" last night, after the final votes were posted at the Labour Temple. Elected for his third term as the MLA in the Flin Flon area in a landslide victory, Jennissen told the crowd of enthusiastic supporters that the NDP would continue to do a good job governing he province. June 5 Ð A joint investigation by Flin Flon and Creighton RCMP detachments resulted in nine arrests Tuesday. Charges included possession of marijuana, production of marijuana and possession of cocaine. June 6 Ð Yet another attack by vandals at the Flin Flon Station Museum has added to the frustration of the museum's board members and its volunteers. "We can't operate like this," said board member Tom Morrison. "Our volunteers are starting to get frustrated." June 11 Ð The battle against the spruce budworm is continuing in northwestern Manitoba. Keith Knowles of Manitoba Forestry in Winnipeg, said yesterday his team of aerial sprayers was in this region from June 3 through Sunday, June 8. According to Knowles, the current infestation of the spruce budworm in northern Manitoba began around 1994. He said nobody can predict just how long this outbreak will last before it runs its course. June 16 Ð A frightening windstorm left a path of destruction at Sourdough Bay on Saturday afternoon, topping dozens of trees and causing thousands of dollars worth of property damage. "It was just a terrifying experience," said Lena McKenzie, whose driveway was left blocked by downed trees and brush. "I've never seen anything like this in my life." There weren't any reports of serious injuries among the residents of the subdivision that contains about 25 cottages. June 23 Ð Canadian Tire for the first time on Friday confirmed what local residents have known for months Ð that the popular retailer will join Wal-Mart at the Flintoba Shopping Centre. In a press release, Canadian Tire said it expects construction on the Flin Flon store, already well underway, to be completed in late October. June 25 Ð In an evening filled with no shortage of smiles or tears, this year's graduating class of Many Faces Education Centre proudly donned their caps and gowns last night. The 56 students made up the largest graduating class ever, for Many Faces. June 26 Ð There were plenty of mixed feelings at the Hapnot Collegiate graduation ceremony last night at the Whitney Forum On the one hand, the 109 graduates must have felt eager to enter a new phase of their lives. On the other, it was no doubt difficult for them to bid farewell to their school and classmates. June 27 Ð A tender has been issued for construction of an Extra Foods grocery store at the Flintoba Shopping Centre.
