Health Canada announce yesterday that it is adopting an interim policy that will see the federal government sell marijuana and marijuana seeds to people authorized to use the plant for medicinal purposes. July 11 Ð It's the end of an era at HBMS. On Monday, the Company will begin advertising the tender to demolish its last two remaining Company apartments, located across the street from the Community Hall. July 14 Ð Pastor Dale Warkentin and his wife Marge, who moved here nearly two decades ago to start the Mennonite Brethren Church, are moving to Carman, Manitoba next month. "If I had to do it all over again, I'd choose Flin Flon above all the other northern communities," commented Dale. July 14 Ð Cranberry Portage is paying homage to its roots with a large concrete canoe monument set to be unveiled next month at the campground site. "Canoes are the very reason that Cranberry Portage is here," said town resident John Donald, one of several volunteers helping to build the monument. "That's because of the canoe portage between Lake Athapap and First Cranberry Lake. The town started as a portage used by First Nations people." July 15 Ð Former Flin Flon lawyer J. Michael Bomek was sentenced yesterday to two years less a day in prison after pleading guilty to eight charges brought against him. July 18 Ð An affordable seniors housing complex may be on the horizon for the Flin Flon area. The Flin Flon Rotary Club announced yesterday that it is currently doing a feasibility study to build a three storey, 38 unit complex to be located on their Rotary Court property. Ð Cranberry Portage aboriginal artist Irvin Head has been honoured with the CBC People's Choice Award for the province of Manitoba. July 23 Ð Competition for your grocery budget will be heating up, as work on the Extra Foods store at the Flintoba Shopping Centre is now underway. On Monday, workers with Dominion Construction out of Winnipeg began driving steel piles, which will support the foundation of the store to be located beside Wal-Mart. July 24 Ð The City of Flin Flon and the Town of Creighton have asked the government of Canada, Manitoba and Saskatchewan to contribute a combined $5.1 million toward the proposed multi-use recreational facility.
