Excitement is as good a reason as any for snowmobilers to roar across the white blanket of Northern Manitoba. But this week, a group of these winter aficionados will have an extra incentive to take part in the hobby they love. Tomorrow morning, a handful of snowmobilers will leave the parking lot of the Victoria Inn for a 700-kilometre adventure to raise money for the sight-impaired. Through the Journey For Sight fundraiser, the riders will be joined by other snowmobilers from across the province along the route to Brandon. "We expect between 75 and 100 machines arriving en masse in Brandon on Saturday afternoon," said Wayne Streamer, a volunteer with the fundraiser. The Journey For Sight is an initiative of the Journey For Sight Committee, which consists of members of the Lions Club throughout the province, as well as non-members. The riders will spend nights in The Pas and Swan River before splitting up, with half of them going to Dauphin and the other half to Birtle. Both groups will then meet in Neepawa the following day before roaring into Brandon around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Members of the Brandon Lions Club will welcome the riders with a reception. The riders collect pledges, as well as donations from various Lions clubs, during the four-day ride. All of the money will go to the Lions' Eye Bank in Brandon, which assists visually-impaired people and aids in research initiatives. The Journey For Sight has raised just over $160,000 over the past two years.
