Submitted by Flin Flon Manitoba Youth Job Centre The Flin Flon Manitoba Youth Job Centre is open once again for the summer! Centres across Manitoba are in their 37th year of successfully supporting youth employment in Manitoba. The Flin Flon Manitoba Youth Job Centre (MYJC) is sponsored by Manitoba Healthy Living, Youth and Seniors in partnership with Marcela Vipond and also serves the communities of Cranberry Portage, Creighton, Denare Beach and Snow Lake. My name is Louise Poirier and I am the Flin Flon and area MYJC office manager for the summer of 2012. I have just completed my fourth year of study at Brandon University and I am very excited to be back in the community. The MYJC is designed to meet the employment needs of students and youth, as well as the needs of employers who have vacant positions to fill, by offering a free referral service to those who wish to hire an eager, hard-working young person. Employers of all types _ business, household, farm, construction, etc. _ can take advantage of the free services the Centre provides. Only the most qualified candidates are referred, and the employer always has the final hiring decision. We encourage students and youth over the age of 12 to register with our office. If you are seeking full-time, part-time, or casual employment, need help with your r_sum_, or want to expand your job search or interview skills, just drop by and we will be happy to work with you. I am looking forward to a great summer in our communities. If you have any questions or employment needs, please feel free to call 687-1689 or to stop by the MYJC office at 105 Main Street from 8:30 to 11:45 and 12:30 to 4:30. I hope to hear from you soon! What does the Manitoba Youth Job Centre Do? The MYJC is a free referral program run by the provincial government that matches enthusiastic, energetic youth to employers who need to fill a position within their company, or a homeowner who needs some help. What kind of jobs are you looking to connect youth with? We work with a large variety of jobs, such as full time, part-time, summer jobs, casual work for only a few days or hours, as well as work for homeowners such as yard work, painting, and cleaning. What other services do you offer? For youth aged 12-16, we offer the Odd Job Squad, which consists of several events over the course of the summer that they have the option to participate in. For theses events, all the money that is earned aside from the cost of covering the supplies, goes to the youth that worked at making the event a success. What ages do you offer your services to? The MYJC serves any students or youth aged 12-29. The OJS is offered to anyone 12-16 years old. Are there any other programs you offer during the summer months? We also offer r_sum_ and job interview tips, as well as education about workplace health and safety for anyone who is interested. For example, if someone wanted to improve their r_sum_ and get advice on how to do so, they could come see me. What is the goal of the Manitoba Youth Job Centre? The goal of the MYJC program is to try to increase the amount of job experience that young people in the community have access to, so that in the future when they are looking to enter the workforce permanently, they have some of the skills and abilities that will make them successful. What areas does the Flin Flon office serve? The Flin Flon Manitoba Youth Job Centre serves the areas of Creighton and Denare Beach in Saskatchewan and Cranberry Portage and Snow Lake. What other events do you plan to hold this summer? Along with the Odd Job Squad (OJS) youths, I plan to have a BBQ towards the end of July and a Hire-A-Youth week towards the beginning of July to help youth find regular or casual employment during the summer. We are closed on August 10th, so I plan to have as many events as possible before then!
