A forest fire burning near Jan Lake is now under control.

The Harp fire, which was first reported on the southwest shore of Jan Lake, is now considered contained by Saskatchewan Wildfire Management. Around 1,800 hectares of land were impacted by the fire, which did not burn near populated areas.

Some smoke from the fire was reported around the community of Jan Lake, which is located on the eastern shore of the lake.

Meanwhile, a fire burning between Sherridon and Pukatawagan at Wagner Lake has burned around 300 hectares of land, but is now considered under control by Manitoba Sustainable Development. The fire was reported on July 9 and was started by a lightning strike.

Most forest fires currently burning in Manitoba are burning in the northern portion of the province, with most far away from populated areas. Almost all fires are either not being actioned or are being observed by Sustainable Development, and all of the fires were started by lightning strikes.

One fire, located north of Orr Lake about 40 kilometres northeast of Thompson, has grown to more than 1,250 hectares and is being observed by Sustainable Development.

Areas around Flin Flon in both Manitoba and Saskatchewan are considered at either low or moderate fire danger as of July 20.
