In celebration of national Tourism Week (June 20 to 26) in Manitoba, Culture, Heritage and Tourism Minister Eric Robinson encourages all Manitobans to be ambassadors for tourism in their communities this week and every day of the year. "Every region has something to offer tourists in Manitoba such as a fabulous fair, a museum packed with historic prairie artifacts, or unique scenery and wildlife. And there is always good, old-fashioned hospitality," said Robinson. "Friendly, helpful people who provide excellent service also leave a positive lasting impression with visitors. So whether tourists are passing through or visiting local sites, every Manitoban should actively support and promote their neighbourhood. It's good for business, good for the community and good for the province." In Manitoba, tourism is a thriving industry worth $1.4 billion a year, directly employing more than 18,000 people. More than 60,000 people, or one in ten Manitobans, work in the tourism and hospitality sector that includes transportation, accommodations, attractions, food and beverage services, and festivals and events. "Tourism contributes so much to the standard of living and quality of life in Canada and in Manitoba," said Robinson. "This week is a great opportunity to create awareness of all that tourism does for our rural and urban communities and our province. We have earned our reputation as 'friendly Manitoba' and we are proud to invite tourists and guests to share and enjoy the treasures Manitoba has to offer." Information on destinations, attractions and events in Manitoba can be found in a variety of Travel Manitoba publications including the Manitoba Vacation Guide, Fishing and Hunting Adventurers Guide and the Accommodations and Campground Guide or online at http://www.travelmanitoba.com.
