Young Woman of Distinction Award Melanie Rodabaugh Melanie is a hometown girl who, after beginning her career at the tender age of 16, driving trucks, went on to possess the insight and determination to start the successful Peechy Keen business. Melanie began by renting a small area beside The Bulk Bin and with as few staff as possible and herself, she ran a successful business. When she realized that her business had grown, she moved into a larger store. Through many hours of labour, she painted and gave the space her personal decor. During this time, Melanie also served on the board of directors of the SPCA and has even brought home a small dog. She is not afraid to give her community her best effort and therefore is a deserving Young Woman of Distinction. Lifetime Achievement Award Dona O'Brien Dona came to the community with her husband, Doug, in 1972 with six children in tow. She met many young women and was asked repeatedly to support and offer resources and information to women breastfeeding their babies. She helped form the Flin Flon branch of Le Leche League and went on to work at the provincial, national and, eventually, international levels. Over the years she has volunteered her time with the Trout Festival and the Queen Mermaid Pageant, Chamber of Commerce, Inner Wheel and St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church. Dona was also one of the women who helped shape the future of local education by initiating the band program for the Flin Flon School Division. She has truly made a lasting difference in our homes and lives. What she has taught us will be a living legacy that will pass from generation to generation.
