An intruder who entered a home and arsonists who torched two vehicles are the subject of Flin Flon RCMP investigations. In the first incident, RCMP responded to an early-morning complaint of an intruder who had entered a home on Dominion Blvd. on Sunday, Aug. 11. Police said an unknown male entered the residence, where he was confronted by an occupant before leaving, at which point officers were called. Having been called around 4:30 a.m., RCMP subsequently located in the area an individual who matched the intruder's description. They effected an arrest, but as of last Friday, Aug. 16, no charges had been laid and the matter remained under investigation. Sgt. Line Karpish, a Manitoba spokesperson for the RCMP, took the opportunity to remind residents to secure their homes. 'With summer in full swing and many folks out and about, it is particularly important to ensure your property is securely stored and homes are locked,' she said. 'It will go a long way in reducing the opportunities for thefts and break-ins.' In the second incident, shortly after 12:30 a.m. this past Saturday, Aug. 17, RCMP received a report of two vehicle fires behind a business on McKeen Ave. in Flin Flon, Saskatchewan. Firefighters responded and residences within the immediate vicinity were evacuated as a safety precaution. After the fires were doused, an investigation revealed the blazes stemmed from arson. Less than three hours later, another report was received from a Flin Flon, Manitoba, resident that two females had tried to steal a pickup truck from a yard. When the owner intervened, she was assaulted and two female suspects ran off, police said. RCMP subsequently arrested a 16-year-old Flin Flon girl. She faces charges of attempted robbery, assault, theft of motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime, and two counts each of mischief and breach of probation. Police said additional charges out of Saskatchewan are anticipated. The accused has been remanded into custody and was scheduled to appear in Flin Flon court yesterday. On Monday afternoon, police also arrested a 13-year-old Denare Beach girl. She is to face several charges relating to these incidents.
