There's a verse in an old Beach Boys song that goes "that's where you want to go to get away from it all." The band was singing about the Caribbean, but the lyric could just as well apply to Ireland, in the view of Gerry Clark. The retired Hapnot Collegiate teacher is organizing a 15-day tour of the land of shamrocks this September, and he's looking for people to join him. The trip will include a visit to St. Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin, a chance to kiss the world famous Blarney Stone, and a tour of the Old Bushmills Distillery. Clark, who saw much of the world during his days with the Hapnot Travel Club, believes there's something about Ireland that appeals to travelers. "Many people have Irish blood in them," he said. "They once said if everybody with Irish blood in them went back, there wouldn't be enough room for them to stand on the island." Offered through Saskatoon's respected Collegiate Tours, the trek to Ireland will also include a taste of another popular tourist destination, London, England. Clark said between 20 and 25 people will be required in order for the trip to go ahead. His club is not affiliated with the Hapnot Travel Club. A meeting will be held on Thursday, March 25, at 7 p.m. downstairs at the Flin Flon-Creighton Public Library for anyone interested. For further details, Gerry Clark may be reached at 687-6256.
