At least one business has expressed interest in making use of the land sandwiched between the Flin Flon Station Museum and East Whitney Street. That's the word from Flin Flon Assistant Director of Works and Operations Rick Bacon, who was not at liberty to divulge the name of that business. For a business to make use of that land, located across Highway 10A from the Flintoba Shopping Centre, the property would have to be rezoned from its current Parks and Recreation status to a Commercial Highway zone. Both a zoning plan amendment and a development plan amendment would be required, and it could take six months to a year for the process to be finalized. For months, rumours have swirled about a possible tenant for the site, but none of the businesses mentioned have confirmed their possible interest to The Reminder. Meanwhile, Bacon is also aware of more substantial interest being shown in available space at the Flintoba Shopping Centre. The land he spoke of is located at the far end of the Wal-Mart parking lot, near the entrance to the box store. Bacon said that property could house as many as ten separate businesses in two or three buildings. Spin-off Aside from luring out-of-town shoppers and keeping more local shoppers here, the Flintoba Shopping Centre has created more interest in Flin Flon property, according to Mayor Dennis Ballard. "There's a lot more interest in property, both residential and commercial," he said. "That's new for Flin Flon. We just haven't had that in the past. We've got to position ourselves so we've got properties ready so we can take advantage of those situations as they come up."
