A provincial inquiry into the 2000 explosion at HBMS got underway this morning in the Flin Flon Courtroom. The inquiry began hearings to investigate the events that surrounded the explosion of August 8, 2000, which resulted in the death of one worker and injured 13 others. The inquest is scheduled to sit each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for most weeks through to June. A group of labour organizations have been granted status to participate in the inquiry. They are the United Steelworkers of America, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and the Manitoba Federation of Labour. Collectively known as the Flin Flon Inquiry Labour Caucus, these groups held an inquiry briefing for media representatives yesterday morning. The group also held a media briefing in Winnipeg last Friday, January 9.
