A date has yet to be set for the resumption of the provincial inquest into the 2000 smelter explosion at HBMS. The Manitoba Court of Appeal has not yet ruled on an appeal filed by company lawyer Bill Burnett, and the inquest remains at a standstill until a ruling is made. In May, HBMS appealed Justice Brenda Keyser's dismissal of a previous appeal to have inquest council Marty Minuk turn over transcripts of interviews he conducted with workers involved in the accident. Burnett spent three hours making his case before the three-judge Manitoba Court of Appeal panel. "The goal of the inquest is to review all of the facts and lay them before the public,'" Burnett told the panel, according to the Winnipeg Free Press. Court spokesperson Karen Fulham said that The Reminder will be informed as soon as a date has been set for the inquest, held at the Flin Flon Courtroom, to continue. She did not know how soon the inquest would resume after a the appeal ruling is brought down.7/23/2004
