It's still not known when the provincial inquest into the 2000 smelter explosion at HBMS will resume. The Manitoba Court of Appeal has reserved its decision on an appeal filed by company lawyer Bill Burnett, and the inquest is at a standstill until a ruling is made. HBMS has appealed Justice Brenda Keyser's dismissal of a previous appeal to have inquest council Marty Minuk turn over transcripts of interviews he conducted with workers involved in the accident. Burnett made his case last week before the three-judge Manitoba Court of Appeal panel. "The goal of the inquest is to review all of the facts and lay them before the public,'" Burnett told the panel, according to the Winnipeg Free Press. A court spokesperson told The Reminder that the local media will be informed once the panel makes a decision. The inquest into the 2000 explosion, which resulted in the death of one worker and the injury of several others, began in January at the Flin Flon Courtroom, located in the Barrow Provincial Building.5/17/2004
