A second appeal by company lawyers has postponed the provincial inquest into the 2000 smelter explosion at HBMS. Lawyers have filed papers appealing Justice Brenda Keyser's dismissal of a previous appeal to have inquest council Marty Minuk turn over transcripts of interviews he conducted with workers involved in the accident. The Manitoba Court of Appeal in Winnipeg is scheduled to hear this latest appeal the afternoon of May 11. HBMS lawyer Bill Burnett was quoted in the Winnipeg Free Press as saying that the appeal is being filed to ensure the public knows all of the facts of this case. The inquest is at a standstill until the appeal process is complete. The inquest into the 2000 explosion, which resulted in the death of one worker and the injury of several others, began in January at the Flin Flon Courtroom, located in the Barrow Provincial Building.3/30/2004
