‘Incredible’ creativity on display at Creighton’s Festival of Trees

Christmas trees usually garner attention for what’s underneath them, but that wasn’t the case at Creighton Community School last weekend.

Christmas trees usually garner attention for what’s underneath them, but that wasn’t the case at Creighton Community School last weekend.

CADAC presented its Ninth Annual Festival of Trees, with a colourful array of artificial pines, wreathes and centrepieces on display in the school gymnasium.

“I thought there were some incredible, creative ideas,” said organizer Laurel Mackie. “Each year I’m amazed with some of the ideas that people come up with.”

Community generosity was on full display at the festival as individuals, groups and businesses donated 35 items to be displayed and auctioned off.

Visitors admired a long row of trees that stood atop tables. Dotted with bright lights, soft ribbons and inspired ornaments, the trees merged tradition with ingenuity.

Creighton Community School students took the opportunity to host an accompanying tea and bake sale, not to mention a Breakfast with Santa event, raising funds for their graduation ceremony next June.

The festival also featured a home-business sale.

Mackie estimates several hundred people passed through the festival, which carried the theme “Making Spirits Bright.”
