In brief: Will Pettersen rejoin caucus?

Flin Flon MLA Clarence Pettersen can continue to bring constituents’ concerns to the government even though he is barred from caucus meetings, says a spokesperson for Premier Greg Selinger.

Flin Flon MLA Clarence Pettersen can continue to bring constituents’ concerns to the government even though he is barred from caucus meetings, says a spokesperson for Premier Greg Selinger.

Pettersen has been prohibited from participating in government decisions ever since he publicly called on Selinger to step down, but he is still allowed to sit as an NDP MLA.

A Selinger spokesperson could not say when or if Pettersen will again be welcomed at caucus meetings.

“The caucus announced in a release several weeks ago that Mr. Pettersen is in caucus but has some privileges suspended, including the right to attend caucus meetings,” the spokesperson told The Reminder. “That suspension is an interim measure by caucus until the Caucus Responsibility Committee meets and investigates each case on an individual basis. I have not personally seen a timetable on that, but I am not in caucus.”

The Reminder had hoped to get a comment from Selinger himself, but the spokesperson said the premier “cannot comment on a decision already made by caucus and announced weeks ago.”
