In brief: Music for a cause

Habitat 53° is holding an evening with musician Frank Michell this Saturday, April 11.

Habitat 53° is holding an evening with musician Frank Michell this Saturday, April 11.

The concert will raise funds to help the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity continue building its first home for a low-income working family to purchase with no down payment and a zero-interest mortgage.

Michell, from Cranberry Portage, has a lot of experience as an entertainer.

“I will be doing a lot of songs from the ’50s, ’60s right up to 2014 and 2015, all country hits,” he said. “I have been playing for roughly over 50 years and have a fairly large repertoire.”

The evening will also feature a sampling of the music from Les Misérables, being performed by the Flin Flon
Community Choir on May 1, 2 and 3.

Collette McKeen, who plays Eponine in the performance, will open the show with one of her songs.

The concert begins at 7 pm at St. Ann’s Church on Centre Street with tickets available at Northern Rainbow’s End.

Dart Provincials

About 50 dart players will participate in the Saskatchewan Adult Provincial Dart Championships being held this weekend at the Creighton Sportex.

Both men and ladies will compete over a three-day period to determine who will represent Team Saskatchewan at the Canadian Nationals to be held in St. Catharines, Ontario, in June.

Opening ceremonies are Friday 11:45 am with play beginning at noon for about four hours. Saturday play begins at 11 am and Sunday at 9 am.

Eighteen locals players will be taking part – 12 men and six ladies. Organizers encourage the public to attend and show their support.

Trip reflections

Having just returned from Greece, adventurous Hapnot Collegiate students are eager to share insights from the trip.

Twenty-one members of the Hapnot Travel Club visited the exotic European country over spring break.

Tomorrow, Thursday, April 9, they will share photos and stories from the trek at the high school’s theatre. Anyone interested is welcome to attend starting at 7 pm. There is no admission.

Each student will speak for a minute or two on what they enjoyed about the trip and why the experience was significant. Students will also take questions from the audience.

Highlights of the Greece trip included stops at the Parthenon, the medieval city of Rhodes and the Palace of Knossos.

Given that the students conducted fundraising in the community, school division administration suggested the club do things to give back to the community. Thursday’s presentation will fall into that category.
