The City of Flin Flon has a potential candidate for the vacant director of works and operations position.

Mayor Cal Huntley says the city will interview an applicant on March 21.

“He’s got the experience, he’s got a good resume,” Huntley told the Flin Flon and District Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday.

While the candidate is potentially a good fit, Huntley said it’s too early to say for sure.

The city has been without a works and operations director since Feb. 13. Rick Bacon, who held the post for more than a decade, resigned to accept a position in Alberta.

Huntley said recruiting challenges are not unique to Flin Flon.

“This is pretty much anywhere in the North,” he said. “[It’s] very hard to attract professional and technical talent.”

Huntley added that homegrown workers are “the best talent” as they tend to stay in Flin Flon for the long term.
