Options for cemetery upgrades

The City of Flin Flon is taking plans for cemetery improvements to the next level.

The city is seeking consultants to conduct a feasibility study to address planning, layout, drainage, landscaping and expansion at the three active graveyards.

A request for proposals lists three main functions of the study:

• Determine any changes needed to the existing cemeteries to improve functionality and maintenance, and any capital costs associated with this.

• Determine what changes could be made to expand and extend the life of the existing cemeteries, and any capital costs associated with this.

• Provide detailed options for an overall vision for the future use of the cemeteries, taking into consideration functionality as well as aesthetics to create a more visually appealing atmosphere.

Responses to the request for proposals are due by March 27. The chosen consultant’s final report is to be submitted to the city by July 31.

Day to pray

Area Christians are invited to take part in the 2015 World Day of Prayer this Friday, March 6.

To mark the occasion, a service will be held at the Salvation Army church at  7 pm.

The Salvation Army, St. Peter and St. James, St. Ann’s, Cornerstone, Northminster Memorial and First Lutheran churches are taking part, according to an announcement from the Salvation Army.

“Join Christians in more than 170 countries around the world and in 2,000 communities across Canada who will gather to pray,” added the announcement.

Report it

Creighton students and their counterparts across Saskatchewan have another tool in the campaign against bullying and cyberbullying.

The Saskatchewan government has pledged $107,500 over two years to Crime Stoppers Saskatchewan to allow students to anonymously text or phone in reports of bullying behaviour.

Reports made by students through text or by phone to Crime Stoppers will be redirected to the appropriate group, school division, ministry or law enforcement, based on the nature, severity and location of the incident, as well as the needs of the caller.

This effort is a result of the recommendations outlined in the provincial government’s Plan to Address Bullying and Cyberbullying.
