The company that owns the Bargain Shop confirms plans to convert the Flin Flon outlet into a Red Apple discount variety store this fall.

“We look forward to bringing our customers an improved shopping experience,” Laura Penso, vice-president of marketing for Red Apple Stores Inc (RASI), wrote in an email to The Reminder.

She said the new store will also house a Candyworks candy shop “full of delectable treats.”

Penso said RASI intends to convert many Bargain Shop locations over to the Red Apple brand this year, and also plans to open new stores.

She provided no further details around the Flin Flon store, saying more information would be available toward the end of summer.

Based in Mississauga ON, RASI operates 155 Bargain Shop and Red Apple stores in smaller communities across Canada.

On its website, RASI makes no notable distinction between the Bargain Shop and Red Apple, saying both stores “provide real savings on all of life essentials for clothing, home and food, in an easy to shop, warm and friendly environment.”

The Bargain Shop has been at its current Main Street location, the former SAAN building, since 2009. Prior to that the store was located across the street.

The Bargain Shop moved into the building after SAAN went bankrupt, forced to liquidate its merchandise and close all of its stores.
