Dave McPherson has heard only positive comments about his idea to give the Whitney Forum a street address honouring the 1957 edition of the Flin Flon Bombers. "Definitely, a lot of people sure like the idea," said the current president of the hockey club. "People have been giving me a pat on the back for doing something to give recognition to the '57 Bombers." McPherson contacted The Reminder last week to say that he intends to ask the City of Flin Flon to give the arena the address "57 Memorial Cup Drive." The 1957 Bombers are fondly remembered by many hockey fans for capturing the coveted Memorial Challenge Cup, a national championship. Since the article about his proposal was published last Friday, McPherson said at least 20 residents have told him they like the idea. He plans to mail a letter to the City this week on behalf of himself and the Flin Flon Bombers asking for the change. The letter will likely be reviewed at the next City Council meeting on October 7. In an interview last week, Mayor Dennis Ballard was receptive to the idea and said the specifics of the request would be looked at after Council sees McPherson's letter. "It's always nice to recognize people who have made the town successful," commented McPherson. The Whitney Forum currently has no registered street address.
