The dream of home ownership is about to come true for Angela Bennett.
She takes possession of Flin Flon’s first Habitat for Humanity-built home at the end of November.
“I love it,” Bennett said as she surveyed the home during an open house last Sunday, Oct. 25.
“Once you see everything come together, and everything that you picked out matches, then it looks like a home. A beautiful home.”
The two-bedroom home spans 912 square feet. It features a bright kitchen and dining area, a living room overlooking the street and an unfinished basement.
Bennett was chosen for the home by Habitat 53°, the local branch of Habitat for Humanity, following an application process.
She will purchase the Steventon Boulevard home at market value on an interest-free mortgage adapted to her income.
An administrative assistant with the Northern Health Region, Bennett and son Austin, 12, currently rent a residence on Third Avenue.
“This is going to be so much quieter, definitely,” she said of her soon-to-be neighbourhood.
Construction on the home took a little over two years, with the finishing touches completed last weekend.
“Everything’s done,” said Habitat 53° chairman Ted Elliott.
Bennett is at a loss for words when asked what she would like to say to all of the businesses and volunteers that helped build the home.
“I don’t think ‘thank you’ is really enough,” she said.
“I’m so grateful for people that have come to volunteer and put in their time to start my house. It’s amazing.”
