The best Christmas gift Jeff Sewap received couldn't possibly fit under the tree. The Creighton man was the lucky winner of a 2004 Dodge Caravan Anniversary Edition in the Flin Flon Lions Club's Christmas raffle. "I was totally shocked. I couldn't believe it," said Sewap of the afternoon phone call informing him of his prize. Sewap overcame mammoth odds to be handed the keys to the glossy black van. Of the more than 3,000 tickets sold, just three bore his name. Lady Luck was clearly on his side, turning a $45 investment (tickets were $15 apiece) into an eye-catching new vehicle valued at $26,650. The timing was perfect for Sewap, who had been thinking of buying a new vehicle to replace his truck. Not surprisingly, he plans on keeping the van, which features a 3.3L V-6 engine, rear child safety locks, four-speed automatic transmission and a CD player, among other features. The draw was held Christmas day at Twin Motors and heard live on CFAR, with veteran newsman Joe McCormick delivering one of his most-anticipated broadcasts of the year. Queen Mermaid Brittany Brown was handed the task of pulling a single piece of paper from a barrel full of the cheese-coloured ticket stubs. The Lions' Christmas raffle was another success this holiday season and will again be the club's most lucrative fundraiser of the year. "Everybody wants to win a vehicle," commented Harold Spring, chairman of the raffle. All proceeds from the draw will be expended on community projects throughout the local area. The raffle tickets had been available at the Lions Trailer on Main Street, the lobby of Canadian Tire, and numerous other local businesses. Incidentally, Sewap purchased all three of his tickets at the Lions Trailer.
