Hudbay’s Flin Flon mill lost several days of production due to safety concerns last month, says the head of the company’s Manitoba operations.

Rob Winton confirmed the mill was the subject of a mines inspector’s stop-work order on May 20.

“The order was regarding dust conditions in the crushing plant,” Winton said. “The mill was able to secure contracted assistance through the long weekend to change the main conveyor belt, vacuum dust piles and complete work on some dust suppression equipment. This work was completed and the stop-work order was lifted.”

Winton added that the impact was about six days of production, though the mill was expected to achieve near-budget tonnes for the month of May.

A spokesperson for the mines inspector could not be reached for comment.
