More than one in 10 jobs at Hudbay is now filled by an Aboriginal employee.
The mining company reports that Aboriginal people make up 13 per cent of its workforce.
On its website, Hudbay says it works directly with First Nations community members to identify opportunities in areas such as employment, training and local procurement.
Hudbay has also been a sponsor of programs such as Resource Rangers, which introduces young Aboriginal people to career opportunities in the resource sector.
The number of Aboriginal employees at Hudbay could grow in the coming years as the company brings its Lalor mine into full production and replaces retiring workers.
