Two people woke up in time to flee a blaze that ravaged a Parkway Boulevard home early Wednesday morning, the Flin Flon Fire Dept. reports.
Fire Chief Jim Petrie said the fire was not considered suspicious and appeared to have started on the exterior of the home before spreading to the attic.
“Two people [were] asleep in the house and they were very fortunate to get out,” he said.
Petrie contacted the Office of the Fire Commissioner to investigate the cause of the blaze, details of which were unavailable at press time.
The home, located at 306 Parkway Boulevard near the Aqua Centre, did not appear salvageable.
Petrie said the interior was “totally soaked” with water from fire hoses and also sustained smoke and fire damage.
Petrie, who was not on scene himself, said he was told flames were at one point shooting through the roof at a significant height.
Firefighters were summoned to the house at 12:33 am on Wednesday. Sixteen firefighters were on scene until nearly 4 am.
“They did an excellent job of containing the fire to one building,” said Petrie, adding that none of the neighbouring buildings had to be evacuated.
