Eleven calls kept Flin Flon firefighters busy throughout July, city council learned last week.
Council reviewed the monthly fire chief’s report, which detailed each incident:
July 4, 7:23 PM: A call from 911 stated there was a grass fire behind the Whitney Forum. Upon arrival, firefighters quickly extinguished the fire. Eleven firefighters responded.
July 5, 2:18 PM: A call from 911 stated there was again a grass fire behind the Whitney Forum. Upon arrival, the on-call officer quickly extinguished the fire. The on-call officer responded alone.
July 12, 6:50 PM: A call from 911 stated the fire alarms were sounding inside Evergreen Manor, near the Aqua Centre, and that the power was out but there was no smoke or fire. Upon arrival, the fire chief determined that the cause of the alarm stemmed from a broken breaker on a transformer. Manitoba Hydro was notified. The fire chief responded alone.
July 13, 5:06 PM: A call from 911 stated a home on Terrace Avenue was on fire. Upon arrival, firefighters found the residence full of smoke and determined that unattended cooking was the cause. The fire chief and 16 firefighters responded.
July 15, 7:11 PM: A call from 911 stated the ambulance crew required assistance with a patient at the airport. The on-call officer and 10 firefighters responded.
July 16, 2 PM: A call from 911 stated the fire alarm had activated inside a residence on Terrace Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters determined the alarm was false. The fire chief and five firefighters responded.
July 20, 10 PM: A call from 911 stated there was a fire off of Creighton Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters found nothing. The on-call officer and 10 firefighters responded.
July 22, 6:02 PM: A call from 911 stated there was a fire in the parking lot beside Canadian Tire. Upon arrival, firefighters found a stack of pallets on fire and quickly extinguished the flames. RCMP apprehended the children who started the fire. The on-call officer and 11 firefighters responded.
July 22, 8:04 PM: A call from 911 stated there was a bush fire off of the highway by Little Cliff Lake. Upon arrival, firefighters found a bush fire that they quickly extinguished. The on-call officer and 11 firefighters responded.
July 29, 9:15 PM: A call from paramedics and the RCMP requested assistance at a call for a body recovery on Rat Creek. The fire chief sent six firefighters with water rescue gear. RCMP directed the body recovery.
July 31, 6:15 PM: A call from 911stated the RCMP needed assistance at an accident nearly 10 kilometres outside the community. Upon arrival, firefighters learned their help was not required. The on-call officer and 13 firefighters responded.
