When someone refers to a hockey rink as a "barn," it's usually because of the enthusiastic (if not rowdy) nature of the fans in the stands. But now the literal meaning of the word applies to the Creighton Sportex. Police officers and volunteers have been lining the rink with sand and straw, preparing it for the 36 horses who will stay there next month when the RCMP Musical Ride trots into town. The final step of the barn transformation ? installing temporary dividers ? is expected to be completed by the end of the week. The Musical Ride, sometimes likened to an air show on horses, is scheduled to take place at the Foster Park Oval on Tuesday, August 3. Residents will be invited to stop by the Sportex to visit with the horses and riders during their stay from August 2-4. Cpl. Leslie Beck of the Flin Flon RCMP expressed her gratitude to three businesses ? McKeen's Trucking, Highmoor Trucking, and Whitford Paving ? for donating the supplies and equipment for the barn transformation.
