Honours for The Reminder at Better Newspapers Competition

The Reminder was a five-time winner at the Saskatchewan Weekly News-paper Association’s (SWNA) 2016 Better Newspapers Competition. Editions from 2015 were submitted for consideration .

The Reminder was a five-time winner at the Saskatchewan Weekly News-paper Association’s (SWNA) 2016 Better Newspapers Competition. Editions from 2015 were submitted for consideration. The Reminder won the following awards:

• First overall, Best Front Page (for circulation class). This category recognizes impact, aesthetics and quality of a newspaper’s front page.

• Best Special Section (all circulation classes). This award recognizes The Reminder’s Guide to Summer 2015, produced by Valerie Durnin, Libby Stoker-Lavelle and Danita Stallard.

• Second overall, Gener-al Excellence (for circulation class). This category recognizes overall quality in a publication.

• Second overall, Best First Nations Coverage (all circulation classes). This award recognizes “Built on a solid foundation,” an article that told the story of the successful Merasty family of Pelican Narrows. It was written by Jonathon Naylor.

• Third overall, Best Tourism Story or Series of Stories (all circulation classes). This category recognizes “The allure of fishing,” an article that appeared in our Guide to Summer special section. It was written by Valerie Durnin.

The Reminder is eligible for awards through both the SWNA and the Manitoba Community Newspapers Association. MCNA will hand out its awards April 29 and 30.
