The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning the public not to consume No Name brand Honey because this product may contain nitrofurans. The affected No Name brand Honey is sold in 375 g (UPC 0 60383 72375 0) and 1 kg (UPC 0 60383 72379 8) sizes bearing lot numbers 220EQ and 248EQ. The importer, Westfair Foods, Calgary, Alberta, is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. This product has been distributed in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut. Nitrofurans are a group of chemicals which are banned for use in Canada in food producing animals. Consumption of foods contaminated with nitrofurans may pose a human health risk related to the inherent toxicity of the drug and the potential to cause allergies. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.
