Statistics Canada released information last week showing that despite the rhetoric and promises of the Doer government, the province of Manitoba and the City of Winnipeg continues to lead the nation in terms of its homicide rate. "Manitobans are increasingly frustrated and concerned about the rising level of violent crime plaguing our province," said PC Justice Critic Gerald Hawranik. "With violent crime, including homicide, on the rise and our court system becoming a three-ring circus, people are asking what has happened to the NDP's promise to make our communities safer?" According to a Statistics Canada release last week: Manitoba has the highest homicide rate among the provinces; Winnipeg has the highest homicide rate among metropolitan cities; and Gang related homicide in the prairies has more than doubled since 1999. "While the NDP continue offering Manitobans spin and an endless supply of news releases, Statistics Canada offers the truth," added Hawranik.
