a cSome good old fashioned holiday cheer brought smiles to elderly faces at the R.H. Channing Auditorium yesterday. The Rotary Club of Flin Flon and its sister group, the Inner Wheel Club, welcomed about 250 seniors to the 2004 Senior Citizens Christmas Party. "It's obvious the seniors enjoy this, and we enjoy doing it for them," said Ted Hewitt, Rotary Club president. "It's a very worthwhile event." Comfortably filling rows of tables, the seniors enjoyed an afternoon packed with entertainment, including performances by the Flin Flon Community Choir, the Hapnot Collegiate Jazz Band and the Coppertones children's choir. Each senior left the auditorium not only with a smile, but also with a small gift courtesy of the Rotarians. In honour of the seniors, the service club has also donated $1,000 toward the Flin Flon Housing Project. A highlight of the afternoon came when Santa Claus himself made a surprise appearance, ho-ho-ho'ing his way through the auditorium. "Santa enjoys coming here," smiled Hewitt. The guests no doubt couldn't think of a better way to once again welcome the holiday season. Just 26 sleeps are left until Christmas.
